Specializing
in families touched by disability, illness or life transitions
“I wish you could...”
This quote
is a taboo and is a red-button for many parents who have a child with a
disability. Yet, there may be many thoughts that run across your mind as you
decipher opinions from professionals, educators, even friends and family, and
integrate them into your own beliefs.
How do you
respond, and how do you process emotions that you may never communicate openly
with your child, family or anyone else for that matter?
Siblings and
other family members are well aware of what is going on around them, and they
may have questions about their new situation they don’t know how to express.
As a
creative writing facilitator, I work with families, parents, and siblings to
use writing and journaling as a tool to process the emotional journey through
disability, illness and life transitions.
Creative
journaling and expression can:
• metabolize
and process emotions.
• find the
source of your strength and the ability to maintain life-balance.
• let go of
toxic emotions such as stress, anxiety and worry.
• provide an
unbiased space to explore solutions and uncover new possibilities.
• open
opportunities for deeper and more intimate communications with all members of
the family.
The blank page also offers a warm embrace for you
to celebrate triumphs and successes!
In my own
life, married to a man who has a disability, there are times when I have faced
situations where I have found myself frustrated with the disability itself, yet
still know that he is so much more than everyday challenges.
Creative
journaling and writing has provided an intimate and confidential avenue where I
am able to find my center, process emotions, and creative problem-solve.
I bring key expertise as a writing and journaling facilitator to provide a safe space to explore specific writing prompts catered towards your individual journey.
Creative journaling or expression sessions are
structured for an hour twice a month or by individual needs and design.
Sessions for families are up to an hour and a half. Half-day or full day
writing sessions are also available. This time is designed to provide ample
space and time to write and process writing, deepening the learning of the
family.
