disABLED PROTECTION. |
DisABLED PROTECTION is a course specifically designed for people with any level of ablity. The techniques taught in disABLED PROTECTION are extremely effective when one is unarmed. However, it is quite common to see walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, canes and other devices being employed for protection. Students in this course are taught to move as they would naturally, using angle, timing and distance to stop an attack rather than speed or muscle strength.
Together, Barton and Megan Cutter, along with other black belts, have taught a full-day disABLED PROTECTION seminar in Charlotte, North Carolina annually since 2006. They also give demonstrations, speeches and self defense workshops to conferences and seminars throughout North Carolina.
Barton is a third degree black belt and has over nine years experience training in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. He is currently training under Shihan Karl Koch in Durham, North Carolina. In addition, he organized the disABLED PROTECTION course to teach self defense and self-advocacy skills to people with disabilities. Barton began training in this art as a freshman in college after being involved in another art for several years. He came to Budo Taijutsu hoping to find something to compliment what he had already been studying; he ended up finding a home. Budo Taijutsu teaches people to express themselves with the tools they have. This allows each person to find ways to protect themselves and those around them through the use of their own body mechanics despite any limitations.
Megan is a first degree black belt and has over seven years experience training in bujinkan budo taijutsu. She is currently training under Shihan Karl Koch in Durham, North Carolina. Having no prior martial arts experience, Megan began training in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she learned how to protect herself and those in her community by using natural body movement instead of brute strength. In addition, she learned how to relax, move with the flow and use training in her everyday environment.
If you would like more information about disABLED PROTECTION or self defense seminars, please contact Barton or Megan to set up a seminar in your area.
